01The room

What it is like here

Carlingford is where Horizon began: one room, one grand piano, and a booking sheet that filled up faster than it could be managed. It is still the heart of the academy, a short walk from Carlingford Court, with back-to-back lessons running most afternoons.

Piano is the main event here, with both a grand and an upright, and violin lessons run alongside. It is also where AMEB candidates do most of their practice exams — the room is quiet enough to hear a pedal change.

Charity is the founder of Horizon Music Academy and specialises in teaching piano and music theory to children from age four. The academy grew out of her wish to give her students a place to play for the people they love — which is why community performance is still the heart of the curriculum.
